Reel in the Excitement: Epic Multi-Species Action Awaits!

What a day we had out on Butler Beach! I took Shrunga out for our Butter Beach Excursion amazing fishing trip with Ray Chaters. May is a great time for flats fishing here, with lots of different species moving through the shallows. We kicked off early, meeting at Butler Beach at 1:30 am to make the most of the day. The weather was on our side with clear conditions, perfect for spotting fish.

We hit the flats and tried a variety of techniques to see what would work best. The action started quickly with a Blacktip Shark giving us a good fight. Then we hooked into a beautiful Mahi Mahi, also known as Common Dolphinfish, which put on quite a show with its acrobatics. As we moved around, we landed a Sand Tiger Shark and a nice Bull Trout. The Striped Bass were biting too, adding to our mixed bag. We even managed to hook a Yellowfin Tuna, which was a surprise for the flats but a welcome one. The highlight for me was when we hooked an Atlantic Sailfish - that's always a thrill. We rounded out the day with some Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Sea Trout, giving us a real variety of catches.

The Kaveri River Basin provided some interesting conditions, and we had to adjust our approach a few times to keep the fish coming. But that's what I love about flats fishing - you've got to stay on your toes and read the water. Shrunga did great, picking up the different techniques quickly and staying patient when we had to work for the bites. We covered a lot of ground, finding some sweet spots where the fish were really active. It's days like this that remind me why I love guiding - every trip is different, and there's always something new to see or learn.
