Tackle Invasive Lionfish on Florida's Inshore Adventure!

I headed out with Shrunga for an early morning fishing adventure on June 1st, launching from Butler Beach in Florida at 2:00 am. The conditions were partly cloudy throughout the day with storms possible, which added an element of excitement to our inshore expedition. We were targeting the rich coastal waters of Florida, known for their diverse marine life and excellent fishing opportunities. As a guide with Ray Chaters, I was eager to show Shrunga the ropes of our Inshore Fishing Adventure in Gulf Shores – Fun for All Ages. Key species in Florida's coastal waters include snook, redfish, and tarpon. Anglers should focus on mangrove shorelines, oyster bars, and grass flats in depths of 2-6 feet. Live bait like pilchards or pinfish are highly effective, especially when fished under a popping cork near structure. During cooler months, target deeper channels and passes where fish congregate. Sight-fishing for tailing redfish on shallow flats is productive during higher tides.

We employed a variety of techniques to maximize our chances of success, including bottom fishing, trolling, and live bait fishing. These methods are particularly well-suited for the diverse underwater terrain and species found in Florida's coastal waters. Our target for the day was the red lionfish, an invasive species that has become a focus for conservation-minded anglers in the region. Red lionfish are well-adapted to the Florida waters, making them a challenging and rewarding catch.
