What a day out on the water! I had the pleasure of taking Shrunga out for a BackCountry fishing trip along the Kaveri River Basin in Butler Beach. May is a prime time for this type of fishing, as the weather starts warming up and the fish become more active. When Shrunga arrived at the meeting spot on Butler Beach, the skies were partly cloudy, but the rain had cleared, making for a comfortable day on the water.
We started the trip using a variety of techniques to target the fish. It didn't take long before Shrunga's rod doubled over—he had hooked into a feisty Atlantic Sailfish! That fish put up an incredible fight, stripping line and making several acrobatic jumps. Shrunga kept his cool and worked that fish hard, finally getting it close enough for a quick photo before releasing it unharmed. A little while later, we spotted some more fish working the area, and Shrunga was able to land a few more solid catches, filling the cooler nicely.
The fishing was steady throughout the day, with a good mix of action and downtime to just relax and take in the scenery. I always enjoy these BackCountry trips—it's a chance to get away from the crowds, explore some quieter waterways, and really focus on the fishing. Shrunga was a pleasure to have on board, and we spent the day swapping stories, sharing tips, and just plain having fun out on the water.
